Organic growth on the surface of your roof destroys the roof coating and therefore the water proofing integrity of the concrete tile/metal surface. Once water penetrates a concrete tile it allows for more organic growth and the process magnifies. Water below the surface coating of a metal roof promotes rust and we all know what that does to a roof! The net of all this is you need to clear your roof of moss, mould and lichen – regularly.

Kowhai uses a specialised product called Koklean Green. This slow-release biodegradable formulation removes moss, mould and lichen, eventually leaving your roof surface to look clean and new. This organic growth, even after treatment can take a while to break down and be removed from the roof surface. This is where natural washing of the roof during rainfalls helps with the continued cleaning of the surface resulting in the roof becoming a little more cleaner every time it rains. For those wanting a more instant result, a pressure wash after treatment can help, however this involves more labour and the roof treatment may not have had time to effectively kill all of the organic growth on the roof.

While the treatment starts working immediately, you won’t see instant results. The moss, mould, and lichen will gradually die off, and the visible effects will typically show within 12 to 24 weeks, depending on weather conditions. In some sheltered or dry areas, this process can take longer. The results are guaranteed, so if the treatment does not work as expected, your Kowhai applicator will simply redo the job at no cost.
