Kowhai Otago
Kowhai Otago has been owned and operated by Scotty and Vicki Campbell since 2011.
Kowhai Otago is owned and operated by Scotty & Vicki Campbell. Scotty, who was born and bred in Otago, had a crack at a few jobs in his younger days. After a stint at farming, and then a couple of years as a storeman, he did a butchery apprenticeship. He spent 11 years as a butcher but lost his enthusiasm for it when “poncy, gourmet cuts” became a thing. But he doesn’t regret a second of that time because that’s how he met Vicki, who worked as a meat packer in the same supermarket.
Vicki encouraged him to try a new direction so Scotty went to work with a mate where he learned the painting and decorating trade. He never looked back and ten years later, he and Vicki took on Kowhai Otago in about 2011.
The business, like their marriage, has gone from strength to strength and they are now a “solid team of five” including son Curtis. And although they take their work very seriously, the team makes a point of sharing a laugh through- out the day and bringing a smile to their customers.
Outside of work, Scotty is a classic car enthusiast. He’s passionate about doing up old Cortinas but is equally happy to tinker with anything that has a Ford badge on it.
Although not particularly sporty, Scotty lends a hand coaching kids’ soccer. He doesn’t get too involved with the technical aspects of the game and instead focuses on building team spirit and making sure the players enjoy themselves.
Scotty is also a member of the Chamber of Commerce and is the Hospice Champion for the local BNI group.
Based in Dunedin, Kowhai Otago services from Herbert in the North to Waipahi in the South.
